The squid have contuniued to run in the gulf with reports coming in to the shop that Learmonth Jetty has had the squid show up on the high tide. A good sized cobia was hooked there too, but it had a healthy release when the hooks pulled right beside the jetty. Spangled emperor around the west side on the incoming tide has also been continuing with a few medium sized fish attacking...

In the deeper waters dolphin fish have been prevalent along with the odd black marlin. Big blue marlin tend to show up at this time of year and the sailfish are still playing around in the gulf. according to one angler in a tinny off Bundegi reef. Young Riley Smith and his family from Auto Pro enjoyed the Christmas break and got out amongst the billfish action. Riley caught his first sailfish only to be followed by another on the next trip...

Pictured this week is local angler James Spicer with a nice cod caught between the Muiron Islands and the Navy pier last weekend. James was very excited. It was 86cm and 11kg, and was caught on 15kg line with 80 pound leader. James is 13 years old and is a keen fisherman who wants to join the fishing club next year along with his Dad...
