Bluewater Exmouth News June 11th 2009

Jeff Sheridan and Derek Murtha from Perth are here for a fishing break. On their first trip out in the gulf after launching from the Bundegi boat ramp, the guys caught a sweet tasting 67cm coral trout and a spanish mackerel. They were using lightly weighted rigs with squid. They also used berley to hopefully attract bluebone. I'm sure by the end of their trip they will have some success with the prawn baits for blueys. The winds in the morning were strong that day, but eased off for the evening: making it perfect for that late afternoon bite.

Peter and Christine Gates are here from Bunbury to escape the winter chill. Their first outing on the water produced two wonderful mud crabs for dinner to share with the family. Peter also had a day out fishing with his son Matt and friend Des Ryan. The wind turned northerly and made it rather uncomfortable for a while. Both guys hooked some hard fighting reef fish, but sadly didn't manage to land them. By the end of the day the weather glassed off and it was a smooth ride home. Even though they didn't have much to fill the esky, they both thoroughly enjoyed the day out on the water.

We get emails and pics sent in regularly for the fishing report. This week we have Tayla Clatworthy with a huge Golden Trevally caught off Exmouth (pictured above). Well done Tayla: a great catch! If you have a pic of a fish you or a friend has caught that you would like to see in the fishing report, why not send it in to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. One lucky guy headed out this week to target billfish for the first time. He was told by one of the staff here to try the 60-90m area off Helby Bank. He hooked eight billfish in the first day!! It just goes to show you that the billfish are here thick throughout the year.

The Exmouth Game Fishing Club is getting closer to starting the clubhouse. Hopefully in the next few weeks we will have some good news regarding the long-awaited start of the building of the clubhouse. Once this is up and running, we are sure there will be many more people wanting to be a part of the fishing club. If you want to be involved in the Exmouth Game Fishing Club, check out the website for further details.
