Tracey Widdup and Jody Anthony are here again for the fishing and have been out with Ant Simper targeting just about everything. The trio have been getting into some red emperor and coral trout for the dinner plate along with some mackerel and spanglies. Jody caught her first marlin! The happy angler is pictured this week holding her prized catch out of the 5m dinghy. Can you tell she's happy? Apparently she was complaining when she was hooked up and has rather sore arm muscles, but we don't think she was too worried when the fish was landed and the camera came out.

We had a customer in last week with a Halco 190 Laser Pro. The bib had been busted off and unfortunately you can't get replacements. However, on a recent trip north I learnt from skipper Ross Newton, that if you take the bib off these lures, drill a hole in the bottom of the lure and fill it with water you can then use it as a stick bait. If you then rig it with a single rear Owner SJ41 hook, the results can be quite amazing. Why don't you try it? We've caught everything from trevally to trout to jobfish using this type of lure. Of course you can buy stick baits already made up and they have been doing well also on the predatory species.
Four guys from Perth onboard Hianui had a great start to their week's fishing break with a black marlin taking a bottom rig on the first drop! The guys have also caught coral trout, Spanish mackerel, emeperors and rankin cod. With the brilliant weather we've had lately, and the good fishing, I don't think these guys will want to go home.
There have been some familiar faces back in town over the last few weeks with regulars returning for another season. Rose and Trevor Earle are two such anglers who have wasted no time in getting into the fishing. They've been tussling with double hook-ups of golden trevally and getting into some cod in the gulf. The trevally were carefully released, but the tasty cod was dinner that night. It's great to see these type of regulars who love their fishing and care for the environment with good fishing ethics and positive attitudes.
