Exmouth News 2006 10 06

Well, we knew the wind had to come at some stage this year! After a near perfect weather year, it’s been blowing hard over the last week, however there are still a few days in between that have allowed anglers to get out and fish from the shore or a boat.

Kids on school holidays have been having fun at the marina using soft plastic lures and catching bream, small trevally and the odd queenfish. Others have ventured down to Wapet Creek using C’Ultiva shad lures and bait in the hope of a few creek species such as cod, mangrove jack and queenfish on the high tide. There are plenty of squid about so make sure you always have a squid jig handy in your tackle box if you like a fresh feed of calamari.

Bradley White from Albany who has been up holidaying with his Dad, caught an 8ft shark out of their 12ft tinny using 30lb braid on his new Shakespeare rod. The pair happily released the hardy creature. The two boys decided to leave the girls at home down south and come up for some fun in the sun. Dad also caught a cobia over a meter that he has carefully filleted and is taking home for the girls to enjoy.

This hardy amberjack was released, after being caught on a an Owner Super Mutu 5/0 circle hook in over 100m of water off Exmouth, Western Australia.

Get your feet wet!

The Exmouth game Fishing Club would like to thank John Famlonga Metal Works, Metaland and Exmouth Cape Real Estate for their support of this annual event and encourage everyone to support these local businesses. All fish eligible for prizes must be caught on a circle hook with the aim to encourage people to use these hooks more often, especially when catching and releasing fish, as it is another step towards fishing for the future. If you would like further information about circle hooks or releasing fish, please contact the club This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
