Look out everyone, Grumpy is back in town. He has already been on the shoreline and caught a big bluebone on squid, at Five Mile on his first morning out. It's great to see familiar smiling faces back in town for the 'season'. The cooler conditions have certainly started to move in with chilly mornings and evenings. Tracey Smith from Busselton is here for a three week holiday with her family and friends. She has been fishing out off Tantabiddi and caught a range of fish including chinaman cod, rankin cod, spangled emperor and a few sharks. She also caught a massive trevally that she happily released. Tracey was using local squid and was fishing in depths up to 70m of water. Clinton Ashworth has been fishing from the shore chasing the giant trevally and whatever happens to travel past. He's managed to land a few bream, garfish and loads of long tom on light gear. Clinton has geared up with barbless hooks and large poppers and hopes to land a good sized trevally or two for a quick photo and release on his visit.
A fine wahoo for Michael Lerch, over from Wollongong. A recent visitor to Exmouth was Michael Lerch and his family from Wollongong in NSW. Michael's two boys had the best fishing they'd ever experienced on uncle Matt's boat, landing large rankin cod, chinaman, spanglies and red emperor. The whole family saw a black marlin in the spread off Helby Bank on their last day here, but didn't manage to hook it. Michael did land a mahi-mahi for the table and the wahoo pictured this week. The whole family are definitely coming all the way back to do it all again for their next family holiday. With the absolute glass conditions experienced in the Gulf lately, there have been a lot of people out from the marina. Coopers shoal and Camplin shoal have had a few mackerel about and black snapper with the occasional trout .
