Exmouth News 2008 07 17

Greg Ireland from Perth is up with a few of his mates, and has had some ripper times on the water.  The boys have been catching a variety of species including spangled emperor, trevally and sweet lip from waters just off Tantabiddi and off the Muiron Islands.  Greg caught a massive cod and the crew of the two boats devoted precious fishing time to releasing the fish back to the depths using release weights.  The big cod began kicking and moving just before he went out of sight and after fifteen minutes and no fish on the surface the boys resumed fishing.

John Lancaster was fishing not far from the marina in his small dinghy.  While he was catching snapper on the bottom using squid he had a floating mulie out and caught a mackerel.  Also in the gulf these last weeks were regular visitors to Exmouth, Rose and Trevor Earl from Augusta.  Rose hooked up to a good fish using her braided line.  After a rough tussle she landed a whopping 95cm estuary cod that weighed an impressive 15kg.

The tasty fish was caught using the local squid. Pictured with Trevor and Rose.

Young siblings, Jason and Michelle Hill from Sydney have been fishing with their mum and dad during the holidays, from the shore.  Jason was thrilled when he caught a golden trevally using his choice of Gulp soft lure.  His sister Michelle was using a popper on the surface and not long after landed a long tom.  The kids enjoyed releasing the fish they caught.

The Exmouth Game Fishing Club is running its Father’s Day raffle.  You could win an Engel fridge/freezer from Betta Electrical, or an EGFC pack full of goodies from the club, or dinner for two at the Novotel Ningaloo resort.  Tickets are just $3 each and you can purchase them from various stores around town as well as at the markets each Sunday from the EGFC stall.  There is also EGFC merchandise for sale at the markets each Sunday including stickers, hats, shirts, vests, jumpers, numberplates and cookbooks.  All fund raised go towards building the clubhouse.
