Bluewater Exmouth News Nov 20, 2008
Wow, what a great bluey we have pictured this week that was caught by Grant Gregory and his son Trent off the beach in Lighthouse Bay. The impressive fish weighed seven

kilos and was caught on prawn bait. Apparently there were plenty more about, but one was enough for Grant and his family that day.

Whiting have still been getting caught along town beach of a high tide in the mornings, with prawn being the best bait once again. When the mornings are glass, it is beautiful to throw in a line to catch a fish and watch the sun rise. Quite often there are schools of baitfish along the shoreline and predatory fish, such as queenies, will come in and stir up the school to feed. Small soft plastic lures could work well on light gear to target these predatory fish or tiny poppers to keep you from snagging in the shallows.

The Gamex brochure is out with all the details of the event for 2009. If you haven't got one, then email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. The dolphin fish and wahoo have been seen in large numbers around the west side with one angler catching a dolphin fish that weighed 30lbs! The billfish scene around the west side has been quiet this last week, although the sailfish are still thick in the gulf on the baitschools.

Young anglers Jack and Alex Dandie got out for a shot a sailfish last weekend and Alex hooked up to his first sailfish. Jack managed to land a whopping great mackerel on 10kg line with no wire. The fish was perfectly hooked in the corner of the jaw with a circle hook and weighed an impressive 16kg. It was Jack's biggest ever fish and his arms were rather sore the next day!

Alex was stoked to see his first sailfish and the boys had an unforgettable day. They also managed to catch and release many reef fish in the gulf for fun and kept one Malabar cod for dinner. The day before this one, they were fishing in their small tinny with parents Ian and Shannon, when some manta rays approached the boat. Both boys jumped in with the manta rays and swum with them. How lucky are the kids in this town to experience these amazing sights?
