Christmas is here! That means lots of good food, good friends and time off. I (literally) thank God for Christmas! The staff at Bluewater Tackle World Exmouth, who bring you this report each week, would like to
wish you all a safe, happy and healthy festive season. If you are to get out on the water, please ensure you have all the correct safety gear, knowledge of limits and are responsible. The authorities have asked me to mention this to everyone as they will be doing extra checks over the festive period. Some lucky kids have got a few presents early and have been testing out the new LED flashing Night Fire reels. Others have been testing out the new fishing board game and this Christmas has brought out some great ideas for new fishy things. The fishing has been a little slow this last week due to the strong southerly winds. The cooler temperatures have also contributed to the fewer anglers on the water. According to the local teenage boys, the jacks have begun to bite for summer in the marina and up the creeks. One of the mangrove jacks up the creek taken on a lure. One of the brave customers who headed out off Tantabiddi was targeting red emperor in the 100m mark using squid when he hooked a thumping big fish. After a strong battle, he managed to land a massive amberjack estimated at over 25kg! The crew took some quick pics and then released it. These fish are hardy and release well in deep waters. The boys also caught robinson sea bream, pearl perch and a red emperor. Although it was blowing about 25 knots in town, the boys said it was only blowing about 10-15 knots on the west side. Did you know that the Exmouth Game Fishing Club is having a camp out fishing competition weekend? It is scheduled for the 10th and 11th of January. There are $500 worth of prizes to be won thanks to Exmouth Dive, with categories for the most species caught and released from the shore (with photos), the heaviest mackerel, the longest spangled emperor, the most tagged sailfish and the most tagged marlin. You don't need a boat for some of the sections, and you don't need to be an EGFC member. You DO have to book for this, as numbers are limited, and they need to know for catering. There will be a barbecue on the Saturday night and breakfast on the Sunday morning. It's a fun weekend camping and catching up with friends to talk fishing, so email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
