Andre & Mark Pagano went on a three day fishing expedition to Shark Bay. Dirk Hartog Island was on their “to do” list and it didn’t disappoint. They explored the island in hope of some snapper and tailor, and of course take in the wonders of their surroundings.

They caught some species on baits, but were also keen to step their game up a notch with some fast retrieval Raider metal lures. In hope of some ferocious tailor hooking up, they tried casting around crashing white water and it sure did pay off.

Raider metals are dynamite on tailor when they are chasing bait schools.
Also in their tackle box were some Snapbacks soft plastics to try on pink snapper along the reefs and rocky caves. These proved to be irresistible on these fish especially when the snapper are on the chew.

Chopper tailor are thick around the Narrows and Mosman areas and the word is that the mulloway are on! The lower reaches of the river are teeming with baitfish and squid so it all looks good for mulloway in the next few weeks.
Karl from Bluewater Morley caught and released eight fat, bull herring on River2Sea Baby Rovers near Point Walter last week. He reported heaps of surface boils and missed strikes and said that the fish were really on the chew. He also reported seeing heaps of birds working the various bait schools around the area.
Cameron our General Manager, also fished the same area a few days later with his son, Connor and they caught and released squid, herring and small salmon.
There have been a few good gardies floating around off the northern beaches and herring have been ok too. Salmon have continued to bob up along Scarborough beach as well as a few soapy mulloway. But still relatively quiet off the beaches.
Southern bluefin tuna have moved just that bit deeper this week with good reports coming from Direction Bank and beyond. Small diving minnows, Richter Jelly Babes are doing the trick on them, but poppers and small stick-baits also becoming a popular way to target the bigger schools. Watch our shelves for stocks of the new Pakula 'Micro Uzis' and Apex Predator 'Jerks' and get some of these out the back. Anyone who was at the Peter Pakula night at Bluewater Melville last Thursday can attest to how deadly these things are going to be. Tuna are still thick and hungry north of Rottnest and with water temps climbing already, it looks like being an awesome year for gamefish. Fingers crossed.
The Swan is really firing for bream in the upper reaches, with good catches reported from Belmont to Caversham. Local bream guru, Szarn Tink reported getting smoked in the Canning on one of the new Strada Aifes in Daintree (seems to be a hot colour). Apparently the fish smacked the lure then found the only pylon in the area to take home his new lure. Got to love bream!
Amberjacks and small yellowtail kings are around the barges west of Rottnest, and expect the bigger samsons to start showing up soon - if they're not there already.

It’s time to get “jiggy with it".
WA locals would have heard we lost another angler to a boating tragedy yesterday. Although this gentleman was a good customer and friend of ours, his name has not yet been released by the authorities, so we will respect that and hold off saying more for now -except to say, please be careful out there. This guy was knowledgeable, fit, capable and competent. If it can happen to him, we all need to be more careful.
