Locally, tailor and some late season salmon have kept the regulars amused with heaps of herring for those that berley them up. Big tailor to 60cm remain active off the beaches with better areas to try including Alkimos and northern beaches.
The northern coast has been prolific with squid this week, with some exceptional bags of squid coming from north of ocean reef. Some whoppers amongst them to 1.5kg and lots over a kilo. Joh from Bluewater Scarborough has done well lately on Harimitsu and Emeraldas jigs, with five the other night of up to 42cm cape length. He reports that all the squid were full of eggs.

Skippy have been around off the Mindarie and Two Rocks, rock walls with the “odd good one” landed. Customers have also been reporting some rather large samsons hunting inside the marinas at Mindarie and Two Rocks. These are no doubt “pets” of the locals who feed them from the jetties and houses that back onto the water in the marina itself.
Graham Stewart fished off Mindarie last weekend and scored an 11kg jewfish and a big baldie that went 6.5kg. He also encountered a few great king george to 60cm – they have been in fairly good numbers throughout the thirties and on the chew around the low tide change.
Offshore, those in the know are still scoring good catches of jewies from about 45- 55m depth. Snapper action quietened off a little due to the moon phase but should be firing up after the coming blow. Tim from Bluewater Scarborough bagged out on soft plastics last week before work, with a 78cm snapper followed up by a 55cm jewie. All by 5.30 am. He and the crew from Bluewater Morley have been having some good success lately on luminous Gulps fished through a berley trail with catches so far including everything from big skippy, sambos, jewies and snapper to 54cm king george whiting. Who needs bait when you can pack plastic.

Snook have been around in numbers and have been of significant size – some to a metre. Southern bluefin tuna have also been reported with Damien Cestrilli and “The Bull” taking a few out from Ocean Reef last week.

Zade Stewart also surprised his dad by hooking and landing his first ever bluefin tuna off Mindarie last week, which by all reports was far bigger than the biggest his dad has ever taken. Dad did make an excellent deckie during the fight with a clean gaff shot and has been invited out again.
