Bluewater Tackle World News 24th June 2010

Al Green and Rick Calleja fished the Three Mile Reef system one night last week for good results. Pink snapper were the main target, but beside the three decent pinkies caught, the pair also hooked into a good jewfish. Snapper have been reported to be a fairly reasonable option just about anywhere at the moment with loads of skippy also nabbing baits on the way down.

Tim from Bluewater Scarborough did well on pink snapper off Mindarie the other morning attributing his success to plenty of berley.

Anthony Kane, Tony Vine and Wally Parkin went out through the week also for a night fish with Parkin leading the way with some undersize jewfish (released of course) before Anthony came through with the goods, nailing a couple of really good king george around the 65cm mark.

Squid reports have been fairly consistent with some better than average catches coming from inside the reef system at Hillarys and Ocean Reef. There are some whoppers for those in the know – up to and over a kilo. Try using a small cyalume light a foot in front of the squid jig, reports are coming in from Bluewater Scarborough of big squid caught during the day using this technique. There are still plenty of squid being caught at both North and South Mole as well.

Josh shows how early morning beach work can be very rewarding at times.

Herring have been in plague proportions off the Two Rocks walls with some skippy too.Large snook have been lurking around the inside the Three Mile Reef systems and have been responding well to drifted baits or trolled minnows. Tailor to 60cm have been encountered while drift fishing for these in the same area.

Early birds have been doing well picking up bigger size tailor at the northern beaches on garfish baits. Floreat and Swanbourne drain have been producing numbers of some big salmon, tailor and herring also.

Big fat sand whiting have also been on the cards for those fishing the sand out from Mindarie while a few smaller flathead have also got in on the action.

Bluewater Morley customers "Two men in a tinnie" have been cleaning up at the past few bream comps.

Regular customer Billy from Mindarie also reported landing two pink snapper of 60cm out of his kayak out from ocean reef – he did mention it was a looong paddle thou and with the reports of a white shark floating around he probably didn’t waste any time paddling home.

Crabs are plentiful around Fremantle and throughout Cockburn Sound.

Most reports of bream have been coming from the Ascot area though this can change once the winter rains arrive.
