Tony Vine, AJ Kane and Jason Rushton from Bluewater Mindarie had a blinder on pinkies on Sunday night off Mindarie – anchored on the Three Mile Reef the pair scored constant hook-ups from medium sized pinkies. Thirty plus fish were landed from size to 60cm with a few memorable bust offs from much better fish. Tailor to 50cm were a by catch and the pair also noted the abundance of squid through the berley trail – our advice for anyone wanting to get some pink lovin'…plenty of berley and get out to the Three Mile Reef.

First and last light is the prime time for pink snapper.
Tailor have also been abundant at the Alkimos, with most around the beaches and reefs during low light conditions. Chris Still fished the Three Mile Reef on Thursday and got into a heap of hard fighting skippy with the sizes generally around the 40cm mark – the fish responding well to a heap of berley. Herring have been on the bite through the day at the Mindarie rockwall with some sizeable skippy too.
Squid have been better towards the evening with one of our customers nailing 14 in a two hour spinning session from the inside of the marina. Hillarys has been a good option for those wanting a feed of squid – some good pike snooping around the same area. The boys from Bluewater Scarborough have caught numerous squid in the river during the week with small jigs in the 1.8-2.5 range producing results.

Reported this week was a thumping samson fish attacking mullet inside the Two Rocks marina with onlookers watching in awe as the big fish belted the hapless mullet.

Small salmon have made the Moore River an interesting place to fish with quite a few reported in the Mindarie store through the week. Mindarie locals have been doing pretty well on crayfish over the last month and report some good sizes.

On board Black Jack II on Monday just gone, Dave Gray, Damian Wham and Matt Garwood ventured out in search of game fish in vicinity of Rottnest’s West End – not too much ended up being tangled with on the outfits, but they were spectacle to some seriously big tuna and a sole spanish mackerel engaging in aerial manoeuvres near the edge of a pretty strong drift line – these fish were quite noticeable in the fact that they were between 1m and 2m clear of the water when sighted and were actively destroying bait, of which there is heaps currently holding south of Rottnest.
With no luck, the boat ventured out wider towards the FADs, which seemed fairly quiet although Matt did get to christen a new outfit on a lovely five kilo mahi mahi, which exploded out of the water as it struck a Richter Soft Oscar in the U.V. colour scheme. From there, big baits were dropped in deep water in the hopes of tangling with some big sharks, or whatever else may have been lurking but a sizeable weather front put an early end to the days venture.
