Bluewater Tackle World News for August 15th Ross & Tracey at Reel Teaser Charters have begun operating their newly-refurbished Westcoaster 65, which has been modified extensively for long-range fishing charters. The first trip on the new vessel was pretty much due north of Broome out to Scott Reef, and was a great success with sailfish, marlin, wahoo, dogtooth tuna, coral trout and so on. You can see some pics on the Reel Teaser website , but there's not much about the new boat on there yet.The new boat replaces a beautiful 52' fibreglass flybridge cruiser, which is now offered for sale. *** If you're in the south-west of Western Australia, you're going to have a lovely weekend. One thing you could do with it is show your support for preventing the closures of our recreation areas, by participating in a rally on Sunday to save Logue Brook Dam and surrounds from the clutches of the Labor government. See the Save Logue Brook Dam website for all the details, and if you can please make it along to the rally get-together, 11am at the lake; it's a 2-1/2 hour drive from Perth's northern suburbs, down through Pinjarra and a left turn 10km before Harvey.*** This week's unmissable Bluewater Tackle World special is Sumari 12cm minnows, less than half price and already fitted with quality Owner trebles and split rings. See those and other specials here. The Sumaris are also available in-store at the $6.99 price.*** The Perth Boat Show begins next Wednesday, August 20th at the Perth Convention Centre. For those thinking about buying their first boat, or those looking to upgrade, this is definitely the place to check out all the options and talk to industry experts – all in one place. All the info you'll need is at the BIAWA website , and the show finishes on Sunday 24th.*** Here’s a preview of this weekend's Sunday Times fishing news, with a bit of extra stuff... PERTH METROPOLITAN Wayne Blanch had a very pleasant Sunday fish off Scarborough beach last weekend, beginning at a leisurely 10am and finishing four hours later with ten small salmon, most of which were released. The fish favoured whitebait with a tiny skirt in front, preferring that over the larger mulie baits that Blanch also tried. Joff Weston spotted big fish, almost certainly salmon, busting up on baitfish off Trigg Point on Wednesday morning – unfortunately while he was on his way to work. Other salmon schools were also spotted offshore from the Trigg area. A couple of nice tailor were nabbed off Cottesloe Groyne. Marinas such as Mindarie, Two Rocks and Hillarys are holding tarwhine, better size squid also pushing in and skippy to 1kg around as well as for boat anglers not far offshore. Good numbers of sand whiting made for tasty meals offshore from Scarborough, while further out a fisher best known as Frenchie, of Two Rocks, fished the Bank to catch jewfish, pink snapper and baldchin groper. Joe McNamara and Nick Bailey of Bluewater Tackle World Melville tripped out from Two Rocks to catch and release samson fish and amberjack using jigs and soft plastic lures. Squidders are still enjoying themselves in Cockburn Sound and the odd pink snapper has been caught there. Both upriver and spots well downstream have been mentioned for chasing bream, structures around Mosman/Claremont worth a try. MANDURAH Neil Grant and his mate Tony fished Bouvard Reef, south of Mandurah, where they worked up a good mixed bag including a jewfish, pink snapper, leatherjacket, nannygai, flathead and a few skippy. Squid make a worthy target in local waters. The Dawesville Cut is alive with little tailor, getting past them to snare legal size fish a problem. There are numbers of herring around and skippy on the estuary side of the Cut. Rivers in the area are flowing a bit quickly for bream fishing, that species better in the canals at the moment. MOORE RIVER Brad Brown of Bluewater Mindarie and his mate Mark Petruzio of Wanneroo fished the Moore River to catch and release 6-7 bream each, fish from between 20 and 35cm. When the heavy weed permits some tailor hit the beaches and the odd small bronze shark has mooched about. Tides haven’t suited mulloway activity. KALBARRI Tailor weren’t as active as they were a week ago, choppers biting at Red Bluff and Wittecarra Creek, big garfish a feature at the Bluff. Coastal gorges have fished well for good pink snapper and a few tailor. The Murchison yielded bream both near town and well upstream, mulloway there making an impact, fair numbers encountered over 60cm also well up river. The star catch, apparently watched by quite a crowd, was made by a young fellow from Donnybrook, Jeremy Erdmann. Using just 6lb Fireline, Erdmann fought a 20kg mulloway for around an hour before finally landing it. Despite the season being almost over, the odd mackerel and tuna have made for excitement for offshore anglers. EXMOUTH There's an Exmouth-only newsletter on the site just about every week... but not this week. Last week's is here. We'll hope for a new one next week, but Matt & Jeni are away at the Australian Tackle Show so the remaining crew are pretty busy.*** Got a 4WD?
