The big spanish mackerel

Get your feet wet!Check this out - a big spaniard in anybody's books.

Get your feet wet!

The fish was caught on Saturday September 16th 2006, aboard Terry Maxwell's charter boat Osso Blue, by angler Andrew Burton from Newman. It fell for a Halco Laser Pro 190 DD lure and was caught on 24kg line class. The fish would have been a state gamefishing record if Andrew had been a member of a GFAA club.

The standing Australian record is 38.75kg from back in 1978 off Rottnest (there's a mould of that fish in the Scarborough store). The All-Tackle World Record for heaviest narrow-barred mackerel is 44.9kg, and this fish may have weighed more than that before they bled it and had it on the deck all day (it was iced and wet and covered, but too big for any fish box). It was the first fish caught on the day.

Needless to say Andrew and his wife Natasha are going to sign up to the Exmouth Game Fishing Club before their next trip. Skipper Terry is holding the fish horizontal and angler Andrew is holding it on the Bundegi Jetty.

Big Mackeral!
